Being sick forces you to sit and watch life as it unfolds around you. Of course there are the things that really must get done, like feeding your children and helping with things that they can't do for themselves just yet. It does help to have older children that don't mind helping out with the little one though.
The last few days I have not been able to do much of anything that required a lot of brain power or stamina so I have been left with watching my kids as they go about their day. They are much more resilient with the sickies than I am.
I like to think that I notice everything about my children because I am with them all day every day. But there are things that slip by without me noticing because I am busy with chores or parenting one child at a time or even just my own thing.
Yesterday, as I was lounged out in my son's room, I watched my almost 3yo (gasp!) playing a Mario game. I don't know what game it was or even if she really understood it at all. What I do know is that she knows which buttons make Mario walk and jump. She knows which games are Mario just by looking at the disc. She knows how to put the disc in the game system and she knows which button turns the system on.
As far as I know, no one has taught her these things. She has just picked them up on her own by watching the rest of us. And once again, she learned something new while I wasn't looking.
